Of Watches and Clocks

I have always been fascinated by watches and clocks. I had my very first wrist watch when I was I think in grade 3. It was a Mickey Mouse wrist watch given to me as a gift. I wore it daily to school when I got it. I loved it naturally because of Mickey Mouse.

My first wrist watch looked something like this

I had a black one like this

I also remember at around that time, I had a watch that is more like a toy rather than a watch. It was a “transformer” watch with 3 varieties, a robot, an airplane and a sports car. I had all three of them also given to me. My classmates also had those so we ended up playing with our watches rather than keeping track of time. (We were in grade 3 remember?) :)

I remember when I was young that we had a wall clock which would make a sound every hour. It hung in between our sala and dining room. I remember it had a key stored at the bottom portion of the clock where the pendulum and the chime is. The key is used to wind the two holes at both sides of the clock’s face which would make it tick and make it sound its chime.

Our wall clock looked very similar to this one

I’ve had a lot of watches when I was growing up. They are not the expensive kind though but I really liked wearing them. In fact I never leave home without a watch ever since I had my Mickey Mouse watch. I had a Casio watch which you can input some contacts names and numbers. I had a gold watch which is a a bit formal for my age then. I had a classic watch that I found in our drawer. (It was an old Omega which I didn’t know then). I had those trendy Swatches. I remember having a 2 Timex with Indiglo. These two I purchased because I already had a job. I don’t know what happened to those watches. Now, I have my Guess metal watch which I rarely use anymore because its been outdated by my newer watches. The wrist watch that I am constantly wearing now are my Nautica metal watch, I use it when I wear something formal. My Suunto Vector sports watch, for casual days and my latest one a Luminox watch which I wear on any occasion.

Regarding wall clocks, in my room alone, I have 2 wall clocks and one in the bath room. I want to put wall clocks all around the house but it would be too much for a small house like mine.

Whenever I go to a mall, I always go inside those stores that sell watches. I just look around and admire those watches and am still fascinated just by looking at them. I sort of have a fetish for watches and clocks.

Now I am saving up so I could buy me a Tag Heuer preferably a Carrera or a Grand Carrera. I would also want an Omega Seamaster for keeps.

For my sala, I would want to have a grand father clock that would be as tall as me and would make a sound every hour. A Cuckoo Clock would also be great in the kitchen.

Oh well someday I’ll have them all and I’ll post it here.

Here is a trivia for all of you:

Did you know that when you look at watch brochures and even in the internet for as long as the homepage is not interactive, the time shown is almost always on 10:10? Here are some reasons for it. Try to google for a watch photo and see for yourself.

Did you also know that when you go to a watch manufacturer’s website, and if the home page is interactive, the watches there will show the time as it is in your computer’s time? Try it in websites like Luminox, Omega (this one even winds back from 10:10 to adjust to your computer’s time), Rolex and others.

Amazing isn’t it?

Well, these watches would all be useless though if we don’t make full use of our time.

By the way, its pronounced as Tag Hoyer not Tag Yuwer. :P
