USB and Flash Disk

I was watching TV yesterday when a singer named Sophia was featured with her musical gadgets. I am always captivated whenever I see gadgets or anything electronics. I was listening to her explaining the gadgets that she always use. An electric guitar, a digital chord finder, etc and a USB. Suddenly I was astounded when I heard the word USB. It turned out that what she was referring to is a USB device similar to a flash disk but with some other features. I could only shook my head because this was seen in national television.

I get goosebumps whenever people refer to a Flash Disk as USB. My friends, they are totally different as shown in the photos below:

A USB Port is where you plug a Flash Disk

It's called a Flash Disk or Thumb Drive, not USB.

USB is Universal Serial Bus. It is where you plug in all USB devices such as a flash disk, an Ipod, a USB hub or even a USB Christmas Tree.

Flash Disk or Thumb Drive or Flash Drive is a mass storage device which you plug into a USB.

An analogy would be, Foot is to Shoe. Knife is to Sheath. Flash Disk is to USB. You don’t say can I borrow your foot? Instead you might say, can I borrow your shoes? They are totally different. So, whenever somebody ask me if I have a USB, the answer would be YES, its at the side of my laptop right next to the card reader.

Please stop calling a Flash Disk a USB. It’s getting contagious.
