Globe Telecom does it again. In Gensan yesterday Globe cannot send, call, receive calls from other Globe subscribers. It can however send sms to Sun and Smart and vice versa. This started sometime in the afternoon. I wonder how many people were annoyed by this. I know I was. Full service was restored at 6 pm on my watch. With this type of service, its no wonder a lot of my peers, friends and people I know have also started subscribing to Sun Cellular. With Suns wider coverage now, even I have already have a Sun sim. Oh well, that’s the beauty of competition. More players in the market, more choices.
I was in Davao City since Sunday. Last Sunday after blogging about the extreme weather in Gensan, I waited until around 5 pm and then drove all the way to Davao. I just went directly home. My mom prepared dinner for me. We just talked and talked and watched TV. ( House MD at AXN )
Monday the whole day it was work work work. Well not really the shoveling stones and rocks type of work but it was just a meeting. The morning was spend with my colleagues and my boss in the conference room of our company’s depot. There are just six of us under one supervisor and we are all male. Four are assigned in Davao, one in Zamboanga and one in Gensan (me). We then fetched our Field Training Officer at the airport around lunch time and had a very scrumptious meal at Marina Tuna Restaurant. Anybody who had eaten there would agree that the sea foods being served are really delicious. Marina Restaurant is going to the north of Davao. Its actually far from the city proper. Its along the national highway in Sasa, Davao City. If you are from the Davao Airport then its just a few minutes away. I don’t know if they have a branch somewhere else in the city. I hope they do.
After a refresher’s course/training on selling skills in the afternoon, we had dinner at Dusk till Dawn. Its located at Torres Street just across Davao Convention Center. It’s chicken BBQ time. The chicken barbecue in this place are native chickens. The place is actually not that enticing if its your first time but the food is great. We also had the typical order that goes with BBQ chicken like the BBQ gizzard and batikulon. Dinner time with my counterparts is fun because each one has a story or story telling a lie as we call it. Tall tales and facts are laid down on the table. Company issues, tsismis and other matters would be discussed. We didn’t have beer so nobody was “promoted” to General Manager because when my counterparts get drunk, one of them ends up being the “GM” of the company.
While having dinner inside the air conditioned room of Dusk till Dawn, a distinctive sound of a Tuko, a local Gecko caught our attention. It was loud enough to be heard from across the room. We ask the waitress if it was indeed a Tuko and she told us a short story about it. The section of the restaurant where we were was not air conditioned before and it had bamboo grass surrounding the tables. Then they decided to put walls to have that part of the restaurant air conditioned. During the construction, the Tuko never left. It is still there inside the room even when the grass was cut and walls where constructed. We saw it behind the air condition and it was big. The waitress told us the it would go around usually in the ceiling. Maybe the owner believes that the Tuko is lucky for the business that’s why they did not drive it out of the room. If ever you would dine at Dusk till Dawn, pick a table inside the air conditioned portion of the restaurant and i’m sure, you’ll also hear or see the Tuko who resides there.
Its very hot outside! I mean really really hot. The sun is shining like there would be no tomorrow. I would not be caught outside of my room at this temperature.
Just so you can imagine how hot this city can get, ill tell you some incident mostly inside my car. I have no garage for the company car so it stays most of the time outside the gate because my other car (the one I own) has the priority over the garage. Sometimes I move it so that it would be under my small Longgan tree (Money tree as some call it). The tree is so small it would only partially cover the car. I usually leave a window slightly open so it would not get so hot inside. One time, I was not able to park the car under a shade for a whole day. The following day, the cd jewel or cd case as you may call it which was left on top of the dashboard warped like it was from the microwave oven. Just imagine how hot it must have been inside the car to warp a cd case like that.
Another time, I left my wallet just for a few hours also on top of the dash board and lo and behold, my credit card which was just a month old was as flat as a calling card. The name, number and other details which was supposed to be embossed was no more. One can still read the details though but it looks old and suspicious. The magnetic strip was still functional because I was still able to buy something using it.
I also remember my previous car’s leather seat cover the portion on top of the rear seat cracked due to the extreme heat. My seat cover now only got discolored still on the same area because this is the area directly under the sun. Ive been applying a leather conditioner on it and is more careful where I park my car.
When you plan to come here in Gensan or will be staying here for sometime my advice would be:
1. An air conditioner, if possible your house should have a centralized air conditioning system.
2. Your car should have a garage.
3. You should plan the time of day when to go out to avoid the heat.
4. Plenty of water. For the plants, yourself and your pet if you have one.
If only Solar technology is available here, I might save a lot on my electricity bill. I’m pretty sure there would be more than enough sun power to run my appliances and other gadgets. I would be helping the environment and Mr. Al Gore might give me an autographed hundred dollar bill. I wonder why the government is not doing something to harness the suns power here in this city? They are probably busy thinking of what to do next.
Well, here I go again, starting a new blog. I had a blog before (around 3 years ago) at Bloggers.com. I have a blog at my Friendster also in Multiply and in Virtual Tourist. I never really wrote that much though. I hope with this one, I can write as often as I could.
